When Nexus Consult launched in August 2019, we were lucky enough to leap straight into some interesting matters. Since then, we’ve had our heads down working away to support our clients. Unfortunately, this meant we put setting up our website and marketing on the back burner for a while.
However, we thought it was about time we tackled this. So welcome to our new site.
Here you’ll find everything you need to know about Nexus. From the types of support we can provide to information about the business and Scott’s background.
Scott Coulton & Nexus
By way of introduction to the business, here is a little background to our director, Scott Coulton and how Nexus has developed. Scott writes:
I began my career in the construction industry as a trainee quantity surveyor at Taylor Woodrow. After around ten years working my way up on construction projects, I moved to Hill International. This was where I began working in the resolution of construction disputes. Over this time I worked at high profile consultancy Driver Trett and worked on several large, international disputes.
As I became more familiar with dispute resolution, I noticed that many businesses lacked the resources in-house to deal with the time, money and other risks of construction projects.
This often means that contractors often struggle to get paid for work they have done. This might be because they are unfamiliar with the claims process, or are overwhelmed by the time and resource needed to focus on it. On the flip side, I’ve seen employers paying for unsubstantiated claims because they don’t have the expertise to break down contractor’s claims.

The future of construction
It is a bit of an understatement to say that the last few years have been difficult.
As an industry we continued to work admirably throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic. Many of you will have continued to go to site every day pragmatically adapting to the new working processes thrust upon the industry. Others adopted to the new challenges and experiences of working from home.
On some projects work stopped completely. For others a general slow-down has taken place as we react to the new challenges of daily life.
In the UK, we are also seeing the results of Brexit. In addition to the problems resulting from COVID-19, we’ve seen material and labour shortages. The resulting delays in materials arriving on site and rise in costs is a challenge that looks likely to continue for some time yet. This may lead to firms struggling to achieved tendered margins.
It is likely that over the next twelve months, some businesses will see a decrease in revenue. Strains on supply chains supply chains may cause business to struggle with cash flow.
Regardless, I’m sure many of us are optimistic. As continue through 2022, I believe these challenges will lead to new innovation and ways of working that will make us stronger in the long run.
We look forward to working with you and meeting you in the coming months. Please get in touch if there’s anything we can help with or anything you would like to know about Nexus Consult.
